Felted Memories is a piece created to represent the island of Puerto Rico and the small memories that linger once you’re away from the island. The small roosters and chickens running around everywhere, the farmer, the food, and the music that plays all stay within your heart.
Each piece was hand-felted. The hand was cast in resin with gold flecks within the male form to represent the souls of Tainos. The hand sticks out of a felted piece that shows colorful houses, palm trees, and the ocean, with the felted memories hanging from the hand.
When creating this piece, I thought of my grandmother. She was always making sculptures out of found objects and crochet. Her constant use of baby dolls and love for them helped with the idea of creating this non-traditional mobile.
